About the founder
Meet Demar Hemley
Hemley’s Tutoring was founded by Demar Hemley, a mathematics teacher who earned his degree in mathematics with education at The University of the West Indies, Mona.
He started tutoring in 2017, when a neighbour asked him to help her son with maths. Word spread from family to family, and Hemley’s Tutoring grew from those referrals. When the pandemic kept students at home, he added online lessons so more children could keep learning.
Mathematics is at the heart of everything he does, and his mission is simple: help students let go of their fear of maths. One of his proudest moments came in 2018, when two Grade 10 students who had fallen out of love with mathematics went on to pass the subject in CSEC. One went on to study biochemistry at UWI, and the other earned a football scholarship overseas.
